Blogging and the future?
Reflective, thought provoking, stimulating, real, open, discussion, relevant, engaging, sharing, enriching, risky, collaborative and fun.
I asked my PLN on Twitter to describe blogging in one word and here are some of the words offered:
Addictive, audience, expression, communicating, hard, engagement, empowering, refreshing, thoughtful, inspiring, challenging, necessary, globalising,
In all the time I have been blogging, I have never blogged about blogging! I blog on two fronts at the moment, one from my own reflective point of view and the other with pupils to inspire them and provide ‘real’ learning opportunities a ‘real’ audience. However, I’m certain that the outcome of both ways I blog are the same. What the pupils get out of blogging is identical to what I get out from it.
My thoughts recently have been turning to the future and how I can keep blogging relevant for our pupils at HeathfieldCPS. It’s all still relatively new to them. I know that the tools I use within blogging will develop at change over time which in itself will help keep things fresh. However, if things keep going at HeathfieldCPS as they are doing, pupils will have been blogging for 6 years when they enter Year 6. One option is to give each child their own blog, but one draw back for me is that a reader would need to check over 30 blogs and some will no doubt be overlooked.
I also think I’m being a little naive in thinking that in 5 years blogging will still be in its current form, but the principles will no doubt still be the same and the words at the top of this post will still be what I am trying to achieve for the pupils I teach.
What do you see in the future? Will blogging still be around in 5 years or 10 years? How do you think we will achieve the words at the top of this blog post in years to come?
